Get Platform Bedroom Sets for A Total Bedroom Makeover

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Furnishing a bedroom can be tricky. One has to decorate with pieces that either match or complement each other. Although having pieces that sport different designs and styles can create an interesting bedroom design, there’s always the danger of your furniture looking like a collection of items that came from different time periods.

To make sure you have coordinated pieces to work with, buy platform bedroom sets. This ensures that the major furniture pieces match each other. You can then accent the interior design with other pieces that may be of different styles that complement the main style.

A platform bedroom set usually includes a platform bed, nightstand, dresser, and mirror. You can also add an armoire, chest, and other storage furniture as your bedroom needs demand. Nightstands can come in pairs. If you’re sleeping with a partner, it would be ideal to have two nightstands. Other storage furniture include chiffonier, wardrobe, shelves, and closets.

Decorate with wall art, vases, or even ornamental plants for a more stylish and refreshing space.

Create Your Very Own Zen Bedroom

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

With today’s fast-paced and hectic lifestyle, a peaceful and relaxing sanctuary is a necessity rather than a luxury. We need a place where we can forget the cares of our workaday world and renew our energies. A Zen bedroom is the perfect candidate for such a retreat. It promotes complete relaxation and encourages a soothing night’s sleep.

Transforming your space into a Zen bedroom does not mean you have to hire a professional to do it for you. With a little imagination and a few tips, you can do it yourself without much stress. Here are a few guidelines that will help you create your very own place of peace and quiet.

1) Get a simple bed. The bed is usually the focal point of a bedroom so it’s essential that right off, it reflects the theme of the room. A platform bed is a popular choice in Zen bedrooms. It is simple, no intricate or ornate designs, and makes the room appear larger. Most platform beds do not have storage space underneath the bed frame. Feng Shui principles say this promotes unhindered flow of energy. But more than that, it presents a light and orderly atmosphere. However, if you need storage space, a storage platform bed would be ideal. Being clutter-free is one of the appeals of a Zen bedroom so it’s important to keep knick-knacks and stuff you don’t always use out of sight.

2) Paint the walls with neutral or earth colors. Jarring and bold colors do not encourage rest so keep to the neutral colors. You can also use colors you see in nature, so long as they’re not bright and vivid. When you are in your room, your senses should be relaxed, not alert and on the lookout.3) For other furniture pieces, get only what you need and in simple designs. As much as possible, keep the number of furniture items to a bare minimum. Make sure you have enough storage space but don’t get more than what you really need.

4) Decorate with things that promote rest and meditation. Have a nature spot in your space. Plants would enrich your bedroom atmosphere. If you can, get a small waterfall setup as the sound of running water is soothing. You can place aromatic candles on the nightstand. Bedroom lighting should not be distracting but gently lights up the space.

5) Keep a clutter-free space. Keep nightstands clear of bric-a-brac. Just keep the essentials and put everything else in the closet, dresser, and other storage furniture.

6) Keep things quiet in your bedroom. A bedside phone is great but it is not ideal for a Zen bedroom. Keep your phone in another room and let the machine pick up any calls. Let the TV stay in your living room so that your bedroom remains a quiet sanctuary.

Before you enter your room, let your worries slip away. After all, you can’t solve problems by worrying about them. Just enjoy the quiet beauty of your Zen bedroom, relax, and renew your inner springs.

How Do You Make A Japanese Platform Bed?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Are you ready to have an Asian inspired change in your bedroom? No need to get all worked up and you don’t have to spend much of your hard-earned money either. You can make or design your own Japanese platform bed so that you can sink into a Zen-inspired haven any time.

Before we start working on your platform bed, let’s make sure we understand a few things about the Japanese platform bed. This bed is designed with simple lines and gentle curves, which is said to promote well-being and good fortune. It is an uncomplicated yet contemporary and clutter-free addition to your space.

Now if you have a simple low platform bed, you can start with that. Paint it with a dark finish. This will go well with white or light-colored sheets. These colors complement the modern minimalist theme, which usually uses black, white, and neutral colors accented with dashes of bold colors.

You can use traditional tatami mats to separate the bed frame from people and objects. Tatami mats are made of straw and are usually used in Japanese homes. Aside from sleeping space, you can convert your bed into a serene meditation area with these tatami mats. To achieve balance, you can also place two nightstands on either side of the bed.

And there you have it, your own Japanese platform bed. Now you can relax in your Asian-inspired sanctuary without having to buy a new bed.

Mattress for Your Platform Bed

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Although you can sleep directly on the surface of a platform bed, it is always suggested that you add a mattress for extra comfort.

When you start shopping for the matters, you need to decide which mattress you want to buy. There are inner spring, latex and memory foam mattress. Well, there is no such a rule saying you should buy one type but rather it is a personal preference. My suggestion is to lay down on different types of mattresses and buy the one you feel most comfortable.

Once you decided the type of you wanted, you should think about how much you plan to spend. I suggest you spend as much as possible because a good night sleep is just critical. I can tell you it is much better than any types of energy drinks.

At last, don’t forget to check the warranty on the mattress as some special conditions may not be covered by warranties.

Best Wood for Bed Slats

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

When you start to build a platform bed yourself, have you ever thought about the best type of wood you would use for slats? There are lots of houses/building centers that will sell you what they call “pine” but are really spruce/pine. You really should ask for “# 2 southern yellow pine”, which is one of the strongest woods around. So it makes your bed more reliable and it will definitely last much longer.

Another option is to use DF as it is one of the strongest softwoods you can buy – it has a very high modulus of elasticity and is often specified for high load applications in beams and joists. DF is stronger than spruce, larch, southern or yellow pine, and far better than cedar or redwood.

Don’t Forget the Curtain

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Curtains usually are overlooked by people when it comes to decoration. People always think about what kind of bed or sofa they should buy, then they think about what loveseat and coffee table should buy. So what about curtains? Curtains generally serve two purposes: it controls the lighting and it acts as a decorating piece for the window.

If you decide to shop curtains online, one way to save your time is to shop by categories. On the other hand, if you choose to shop in a local home furnishing store, chances are you may get overwhelmed by the curtains hanging all over the place. If you are tired of your boring window or you feel like it is time to do something about lighting in your home, then it is time to treat yourself with stylish curtains.

If people have enough budget, where should they spend? Health and wellness solutions probably would be a smart choice. One forum of luxury that most people craves for are spas.

Just so you know, the term spa usually refers to water treatment. This Witarium Spa by I-Beauty is an advanced treatment table that combines steam, Vichy shower and all the wrapping treatments.  I know it is not cheap, but in my opinion, nothing beats relaxing additions to your home.  If you have long-term investment in bonds and equities, this might be a better choice.
